Welcome, Nashville Pilates Company!

Nashville Pilates Company has opened their doors in the Houston Station community! We sat down with our newest neighbors to get to know them a little more:

Tell us about yourselves, what brought you to Houston Station?

When we first conceived the idea of a warm, friendly, professional, inclusive Pilates studio, we brainstormed ideas for where to locate.  As you know, Nashville is a hot city right now and finding the space was a challenge.  We wanted a place that felt like a community space, where people could not only come to work out, but also to gather and share our passion for Pilates.  The search was frustrating at times, because we also wanted a place with character and one that embodies the spirit of Nashville.  We found Houston Station through a Craigslist ad and once we took the tour, we were hooked!  We love the energy, the creative vibe, the friendly people and of course, the beautiful historic building.

What makes Pilates stand out from other fitness regimens?

Although Pilates has become somewhat trendy these days, Pilates actually has a long history.  Joseph Pilates created the method in the early 20th Century during his time in a British internment camp.  Over the years, it has evolved into a program that focuses on alignment, breath, mental awareness and movement to build strength and flexibility.  Pilates’ focus on proper form actually helps with all other types of exercise.  And for those recovering from injuries or who are living with chronic pain or other issues, it helps rebuild strength and mobility.

What makes Nashville Pilates Company unique?

Nashville Pilates Company is different from other studios in that each instructor is her or his own small business.  We offer a beautiful, turnkey studio where certified instructors from all styles of Pilates methods can build their clientele and be part of our professional, dynamic and inclusive community. Clients are free to choose the instructor that best meets their needs and goals, and together they can build a relationship based on communication and trust.

Do you have any words of encouragement for somebody seeking some fitness inspiration?

Many people focus on unrealistic expectations and body images created by the media and other external factors.  Fitness should be a lifelong practice and a journey unto itself.  The beauty of Pilates is that everyone can become more flexible, more mobile and stronger regardless of where you start.  Focus on the process; enjoy the feeling of moving your body and the results will follow.

D+J: Cheers Laniers!

“I would go on choosing you, and you would go on choosing me,

over and over again, and that’s how it would happen every time.”

We cannot say enough wonderful things about this couple. As Events Nashville‘s first full-planning wedding, Deena & Jake were the perfect fit. It’s amazing how you can go from that first tentative initial meeting as strangers to becoming close friends in such a short time. Probably what we love most about this couple is how much they love each other; their love is so strong that it’s a tangible thing to anyone around them. Ask anyone: us, their friends, their family, their coworkers. They are, without a doubt, a perfect match.

To create their dream wedding, Events Nashville called upon some of the best vendors in town, all of whom came together to create something spectacular. We could not have executed Deena & Jake’s dream wedding without the help of many incredible, talented event professionals. One of which, photographer Ian Riley, captured all of the special moments in stunning images to be cherished for years to come.

Holiday Events & Decor

The Holidays have arrived, with the winter weather finally getting in full swing! We love this time of year, because everyone is ready to celebrate this year coming to a close. What better way than by hosting a holiday-themed wedding or corporate event?

Holiday decor doesn't have to be cheesy; take advantage of pairing rich colors with metallics, and don't forget your supporting neutrals. Another way to incorporate the holidays into your event is to include seasonal foods and drinks; hot chocolate bars, ornament favors, and family-style dining.

However you choose to celebrate, the most important part is the people around you. So let's make it a good one!

Arts & Music at Wedgewood-Houston

Looking for something to do this weekend? Why not participate in Arts & Music at Wedgewood-Houston's monthly Art Crawl? Our neighborhood is overflowing with businesses and galleries supporting Nashville's art scene.

Houston Station is one of the central places to be for the art crawl, especially now that CG2 Gallery is open on our first floor. Upstairs, make sure to stop by Nouveau Classics, abrasiveMedia, and Refinery Nashville as well!

For a complete list of open galleries during the Art Crawl, check out the website here.

Noteable Blends Coffee Room

Noteable Blends is a non-traditional coffee and tea blending service backed by over 30 years of experience. It is a private, membership-driven, non-traditional tasting & listening club. Outside of club hours, Noteable Blends can be rented by members for private use. These uses include performances & showcases, song writing, wedding & reception (through Events Nashville), business meetings, and corporate parties.

The only real way to experience this unique, "Nashville-in-a-box" space is to drop by and see it for yourself. If you're lucky, owner Scott Davis may be there to make you the best coffee of your life. Just make sure you have at least an hour available for his incredible stories!

The Knot: Best of Weddings 2017

Events Nashville is in the running for The Knot's Best of Weddings 2017, which highlights vendors with glowing reviews from their clients. Having been a winner the past 3 years in a row, Events Nashville is aiming to remain a front-runner. If you are a previous client, you can leave them a review and boost their chances here.

First Things First: Dessert!

Designing desserts for a corporate dinner or formal dinner setting isn't always easy. That's why, so many times at run-of-the-mill events, you'll see stale cookies or a pile of crusty brownies stacked on a tray. However, here at Houston Station, we've got the perfect corporate event solution when it comes to desserts, and one of our favorites is...the parfait!

Not only can parfaits be delicious, but they are also very beautiful. The parfait is the perfect way to spin new and interesting new twists on a traditional dessert, while giving your guests something they can enjoy and eat at their own pace. This particular dessert is not only hand-held and contained for easy clean up, but it can also be designed to match your exact gala theme or charity event idea. Remember, food should be fun!

The best part is you won't have to worry about the run-around and logistics when it comes to booking a creative caterer for your event; our in-house event planners will be sure to help pair Nashville's best catering services for your specific corporate dinner or gala theme. We'll deal with the pesky details, leaving you to enjoy yourself, the company of your guests, and all those delicious goodies when the big day arrives.

Speaking of goodies, have you ever seen a more beautiful sight at a corporate event than a towering stack of sugary sweets? Sure does beat the pants off those stale cookies and brownies we mentioned earlier, doesn't it?

If you're wanting something with a little more flair, a little more effort, and overall, something much more genuine for your next corporate event, contact us! We'd love to show you around!

CG2 Gallery Now Open!

The Wedgewood/Houston neighborhood in continually growing as it becomes THE place in Nashville for artists, creators, and curators of all kinds. This weekend, Houston Station was proud to be the location for the re-launch of the CG2 Gallery.

Located on the street-level floor of Houston Station, CG2 has a cozy spot to display exhibitions from well-known and up-and-coming artists. Their current exhibition (September 30-October 29) features Erik Mark Sandberg and Mark Hosford. "The exhibition assembles complimentary artworks that examine portraiture and the figure, while communicating diverse styles and themes." You can read more about the exhibition and artists here.

CG2 GALLERY was established by Carol Stein and Jason Lascu. The gallery is an extension of the well established Cumberland Gallery, and arose out of the need to provide more attention to promising emerging, mid-career, and national level artists with an emphasis on challenging, cutting edge, and evocative artwork.

CG2 GALLERY will feature regularly scheduled solo and group exhibitions throughout the year that highlight an eclectic mix of work that includes all mediums from our talented roster of artists. In addition, our services extend beyond the gallery. We offer our clients assistance with every aspect of the process from selecting, purchasing, framing, and installing artwork.

The gallery is located in the vibrant Wedgewood/Houston Arts District at 438 Houston Street, Suite #158, Nashville, TN 37203.

Shake It Up (With A Mixologist)!

When planning for any corporate dinner, business luncheon, or fundraising event, the question of beverages is one that comes up very early in the process. What would you like to serve? Will there be cocktails or exclusively wine? How can this facet of your function be uniquely you, while also making your guests feel special and welcomed?

The answer is easy: get a mixologist.

It's important for you and your guests to have the richest experience possible when attending your corporate function, after all, you're celebrating all their wonderful achievements; and as a corporate events solutions venue, here at Houston Station, our event planners have the ability to transform your function into a memory they'll love and cherish for years to come. A fun way we like to do this is by acquiring some of Nashville's top-notch mixologists, which will give your guest's libations a unique and inspired flavor.

The mixologists we employ take a culinary approach to cocktails, assuring that each mixture is hand-crafted and combined perfectly to create stunningly, creative cocktails.

In 2016, we're seeing a serious return in the trend of "the cocktail" at events, and with an expert mixologist serving drinks at your party, you'll not only have the perfect bartender, but you'll also have someone who's taken on the challenge of creating and designing a unique cocktail specifically for your event. Now that's really something to celebrate!

Want to know more about our genuine Nashville event space and how we can help make your corporate dinner a success? Contact us! We'd love to show you around!

Guided group and school tours are available with advanced reservations.

The Blockhouse

Is it just me, or does Wedgewood/Houston just keep getting cooler? Last week, The Blockhouse, a barbershop-bar-hybrid, opened its doors down the street from Houston Station. Located in the May Hosiery Co-Op, The Blockhouse features a full-service bar and a six-chair barbershop.

"Leather couches, a pool table, a dartboard and television screens in an industrial space give the bar a laid-back vibe. A glass wall separates the bar from the barbershop. Eventually, The Blockhouse will have a smoking patio in the back and members who have access to a locker can keep a small humidor for cigars." - The Tennessean
“The Blockhouse design comes from our desire to have a place where we would want to hang out. Concrete, wood, steel and whiskey...every aspect of our concept is built around that desire.” explains Founder Jerrod Brown.  “We wanted to build a place where men can go and feel comfortable getting a haircut while also offering a space and atmosphere where you don’t feel like you have to rush in and out. Come early, stay late.”

Wedgewood/Houston is quickly emerging as one of Nashville's trendiest neighborhoods. You can't go more than a block without discovering something new, cool, and adventurous. From record pressing factories, to bars, to art galleries, Nashville's top creatives are planting roots in the neighborhood. We're very much looking forward to seeing what's up next!

Coming Soon to WeHo

According to the Nashville Post, a new bar is opening in Wedgewood/Houston. Owners of Edgehill Village's Old Glory and East Nashville's No. 308 have signed a lease for an old former church building located at 509 Houston Street (across from Fort Houston). Plans and concepts for the new property have not yet been released, but we're sure it will be something pretty spectacular! Read more about it here.

Until then, you can still grab a drink in our neighborhood! Have a growler of beer at Clawson's Pub & Deli or a craft cocktail at either Corsair Distillery or Bastion!

Fort Houston: Facilitators of Human Potential

This week, we wanted to highlight our next door neighbor, Fort Houston. Fort Houston is a place to learn, grow, facilitate, and work. They occupy 10,000 square feet of the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood; their space includes a full-scale wood shop, print shop, metal shop, 3D printers, darkroom, and miscellaneous work and desk space. Members pay a monthly membership fee to work and create within the space, as well as get access to various events and classes.

We love how our neighborhood is full of movers and makers, creating and contributing to the community. We're lucky to have neighbors as committed to the music, art, and events community as we are!
