The Dress Theory Bridal Boutique

Houston Station is delighted to have The Dress Theory located within the Event, Art and Music Community. This bridal boutique carries a carefully selected collection of designer bridal gowns and directs their focus on one bride at a time, one appointment at a time. Their Nashville location opened last fall and is simply gorgeous! Shop manager, Kaylee Archer, was kind enough to sit down with us and answer some questions about this fabulous Nashville bridal boutique. When was The Dress Theory founded?

The Dress Theory was founded in August 2012 in Seattle, Washington by Camille Wynn. While planning her own wedding, Camille decided she wanted to open a dress shop that was a niche market of unique gowns for the edgier bride. Just 2 weeks after her wedding, The Dress Theory Seattle was open!

What sets you apart from other dress shops?

We work by appointment only, and each bride is given a 90 minute appointment in which the shop is all hers. This private appointment time allows our brides to explore our select collection of gowns, trying them on as friends and family relax inside our intimate shop. Our boutique is quaint and cozy and accommodates groups of 4-6 people most comfortably.

What type of dresses do you carry and what kind of bride purchases your gowns?

Our gowns come from a handful of carefully chosen designers, whose styles vary but are often whimsical and flowy. Some other words that describe our dresses: sophisticated, stunning, quirky, fashion-forward, eclectic, and comfortable. We attract brides that want a non-traditional dress, are daring and willing to try something stylish that reflects their personal style.

What designers do you currently carry and what is the price range?

Designers differ depending on the shop location. At The Dress Theory Nashville, our beautiful range of hard to find and sought after designers include: Claire Pettibone, Sarah Janks, Sarah Seven, Rue de Seine, Johanna Johnson, Temperley London, Katie May, Lela Rose, Houghton, Winifred Bean, Theia, Nicole Miller, Twigs & Honey, and Untamed Petals. Prices range from $1500-$7000. Most dresses fall between $2200-$4200. We are seeing that Sarah Seven is one of our best-selling designers at our Nashville shop.

What do you offer besides bridal gowns?

We carry accessories including belts, hair adornments and head pieces by Twigs & Honey and Untamed Petals.

What does a bride do when she selects "The Dress?"

All dresses in the shop are samples, so we will take your measurements and order the dress. That way, your dress is custom made for you! It is best to start looking for your gown early, at least 7 months before your wedding day or sooner. Once ordered, it will take about 4 months for the dress to arrive in shop. Allow about a month for alterations, which will likely be needed for the perfect fit. While we do not have a seamstress in shop, we are happy to make recommendations.

Tell me about your trunk shows.

Trunk shows occur a few times a year and offer brides a broader range of gowns to look at from a particular designer. Many more dresses are available during a trunk show than we normally have in stock. These rare events offer a chance to shop the whole collection or current season's gowns by a designer. All trunk shows are by appointment only, so that each bride has plenty of time to browse the collection. Coming up the weekend before Memorial Day, we will have our New Zealand designer, Rue de Seine offering the 2015 collection. Often during a trunk show, you may receive a 10% discount for purchasing that day. Our Claire Pettibone trunk show will be June 27-29. Appointments fill up quickly so contact us now!

What else would you like to share about The Dress Theory?

We are excited to be opening our third shop location in San Diego, set to open May 16, 2014! Seattle, Nashville and San Diego each hold a special place in our hearts.
